I remember those days and sure can relate. I continue to struggle with discerning how God desires to bless others through me and wider faith community in our positions of privilege. It seems that the relational aspect of "having the poor among us" changes us; it's not just about the transactional (giving stuff/money without a relationship). Interesting that Mother Teresa identifies loneliness as the poverty of the West.

Yes. I agree, Robin, and I think so often I felt overwhelmed and uncertain about how best to enter into relationship with all that guilt and external disparity happening. Couple that with a million other pieces that were overwhelming in that time, and I often felt paralyzed. And condemned. Which didn’t help move past paralysis!

At any rate, I also agree with Mother Teresa. The West has its one poverty. And then we each do individually, as Martin Luther suggests. ❤️
